AKW A+V strengthens its leading position in the African specialty sand market

AKW Equipment + Process Design strengthens its presence in the African market by signing a new EPC contract with the leading local glass producer.
The scope of supply is on a turn-key basis, and therefore includes all necessary project steps. AKW Equipment + Process Design will be taking care of the whole project management, and organize all material and equipment sourcing. This new unit will particularly include the latest development of the company in fine classification technology, with the integration of the AKA-SCREEN and AKA-SIZER.
After the successful realization of pilot tests in our own technical laboratory with the raw material provided by the customer, we were able to guarantee the necessary process parameters and product characterization for the planned silica sand beneficiation plant. This plant will have the particularity of being able to produce different specialty sand grades, including glass and foundry grades, making it unique in the region.

The plant process will be including the most updated generations of AKW Equipment + Process Design process solutions : high-performance wet classification screen, high-intensity attritioning, hydrocycloning, spiraling and upstream classification. The integration of various by-pass systems will allow the customer to produce “as per demand” and batchwise.

With a feed capacity of 60 t/h and a two shift operation, glass sand with Fe2O3 content of less than 300ppm and Al2O3 no greater than 1200ppm will be produced.

The delivery, including commissioning will take place within the year 2017.

“We are proud that our team was awarded with this significant contract and we are pleased that we are in the position to enlarge the A+V footprint once more in the African market”, stated Mr. Thomas Baumann who managed the project during the acquisition phase.
