Water Treatment in the Mining Industry
Australian – German Water Workshop at AKW Equipment + Process Design

On May 19th 2016, AKW Equipment + Process Design hosted a group of 12 students from OTH Amberg-Weiden and the University of South Australia, to give them insights on processes and systems for industrial waste water treatment, and optimization of used materials.

The first part of the visit, covering theoretical aspects, primarily focused on presenting the:

– State of the art processing equipment in the field of filtration and separation
– Principles and applications of different flocculation and precipitation processes
– Methods and tools for process simulation
– Practical experience on both the laboratory and industrial scale

AKW Equipment + Process Design was invited by Strobel Quarzsand (a renowned high grade silica sand producer) to take part in this workshop, and to present its unique capabilities and extensive know-how in the wet mechanical and water management processing.
Our colleagues Mr. Roland Biesen (Sales Engineer at AKW Equipment + Process Design) and Mr. Daniel Sieß (Project Manager at AKW A+V Protec Rail) handled this part of the visit of our guests, which ended up with a very long and interesting Q&A session.

The visit to our technical laboratory and test center brought the session into a more practical part.
Together with the students Mr. Ulrich Peuser (Head of Technical Laboratory) carried out some small scale test work, especially on the AKA-SET thickener to demonstrate the separation efficiency of water from sludge from a fine sand material.
The demonstration of the function of our hydrocyclones AKA-VORTEX concluded an interesting training day.
